William Newman and his son Bill have operated Happy Hollow Hunts in Middleburg, Pennsylvania, since 1997. William purchased five sika does and a stag and began raising a herd of sika deer. Today, he has over thirty sika deer that roam his operation.

The Cazador Slam, Part One

One evening, I looked through my Record of Exotic Score sheets and realized I was one animal away from completing the Cazador Slam. The Cazador Slam, through the Records of Exotics, comprises the following exotic animals: Blackbuck Antelope, Axis Deer, Fallow Deer, Aoudad, and Sika Deer.

Scoring Big Bucks: Pirate

During the 2014 hunting season, my neighbor, Ron Kline, caught some great photos of a buck with his trail camera. This buck looked two and a half years old, and he was easily recognizable due to the two tears in his left ear. Because of these unique characteristics, Ron decided to name the buck Pirate.

Whitetail deer have been known to travel far distances for food or to breed. I have read studies about bucks and how far they roam. Living in Northwest Pennsylvania amongst farmland and large wooded lots, I have seen bucks travel between large parcels. One buck I first saw in the summer of 2018 changed my thoughts about how far deer will roam.
